Cyclists will have to take up the challenge of facing a total climb of 11 514m, with Robbers Pass and Kowyn's Pass as the most famous and gruelling mountain climbs. Tackling the Kranspoort Pass on the first stage will set the pace and provide the ideal warm-up for the rest of the Tour. The Organisers effectively created an equal ground for cyclists of levels of skill and age to experience the murderous mountain climbs and steep downhills in a safe environment.
The Mpumalanga Tour is reminiscent of the Hanson and Rapport Tours of yesteryears travelling from town to town and the first of its kind to offer the ultimate challenge to open category cyclists to compete with the professional cyclists of South Africa. Even though some stages will be a shorter distance, the route for the open category riders will be the same as for the Elite group.
The Mpumalanga Tour is ideal for cyclists to train for the South African Championships and the Epic.
